Step 1: find her bra size (or measure it at home)
Look inside the band of a bra she wears daily; the size is printed there (32B, 34C, 36D). If you are measuring: underbust snug for the band, bust loose at the fullest point, subtract. Difference to cup (unchanged reference):

How to read it for a set: bust measurement decides the bra half, hip measurement decides the panty half. A 34C has a bust around 37", which is the M/L border; a 34B sits around 36", which is M. If the two halves land in different sizes, wire-free sets follow the bigger one, underwired sets follow the bust.

Common bra sizes and the set size we would pick

The panty half: hip beats waist
Panties in a set are cut for the hip, not the waist. A woman with a 28" waist and a 40" hip is an L in the panty even if the bra half is M, so on a set that comes in one letter, take the larger of the two. Thongs and low-rise briefs are more forgiving than high-waist briefs, which sit at the waist and need that number to be right. If a set lists a separate panty size (some of ours do), match it to hip; if not, the letter covers both and hip wins.
Her label says 75B or 34DD: converting first
EU labels use centimetre bands: 75 = 34, 80 = 36. UK and US labels use the same band as India, with US DD = Indian E. Convert to the Indian band and cup first, then map to the letter with the chart above. The full conversion table, 28A to 40C, is here: bra size chart India (US to Indian).
