How to Measure Your Bra Size at Home

You only need a soft measuring tape — takes 30 seconds.

Bust Underbust
1
Underbust (Band Size): Wrap the tape snugly around your ribcage, just below your breasts. Keep it level all around. This gives your band size.
2
Bust (Cup Size): Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust (usually at nipple level). Keep the tape parallel to the floor. Don't pull tight.
3
Tip: Wear a non-padded bra or go braless for the most accurate measurement. Stand straight and breathe normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about lingerie sizing in India.

Stand in front of a mirror wearing a non-padded bra or no bra. Use a soft measuring tape. First, measure your underbust (band size) by wrapping the tape snugly around your ribcage, directly below your breasts. Keep the tape level and note the number in inches. Next, measure your bust by wrapping the tape around the fullest part of your chest (at nipple level), keeping the tape parallel to the floor without pulling tight. The difference between bust and underbust determines your cup size. Our calculator above does this math for you instantly.
Sister sizes are bra sizes that share the same cup volume but have different band sizes. For example, 32C, 34B, and 30D are all sister sizes — the cup holds the same amount of breast tissue, but the band is tighter or looser. If your usual size feels too tight in the band, try going up one band size and down one cup size. If the band feels loose, try going down one band and up one cup. Sister sizes are incredibly useful when your exact size is sold out or when trying a new brand with slightly different sizing.
Indian bra sizing follows the UK system, which is very similar to US sizing for most common sizes. Band sizes (28, 30, 32, 34, etc.) are the same across India, US, and UK. Cup sizes are also the same up to D cup. The main difference starts at DD and above: UK/India uses DD, E, F, FF, G while the US uses DD, DDD/F, G, H. European (EU) sizing is completely different and uses centimetres for both band and cup. Our conversion chart above maps all standards for easy reference.
Size variation across brands is extremely common in lingerie, even within India. This happens because each brand uses slightly different fit blocks (the mould shapes), stretchy vs non-stretchy fabrics, and manufacturing tolerances. A 34B in one brand might feel like a 32C in another. This is why we always recommend checking the specific brand's size chart and why sister sizes are so valuable. At Sinderella, our size guide on each product page reflects the actual garment measurements so you can compare accurately.
A well-fitting bra should pass five checks: (1) The band sits horizontally around your body without riding up in the back — you should be able to slide two fingers under it comfortably. (2) The centre gore (the bridge between the cups) should lie flat against your sternum. (3) No spillage — your breast tissue should be fully contained within the cups with no bulging at the top or sides. (4) The underwire (if any) should follow your natural breast crease and sit on your ribcage, not on breast tissue. (5) The straps should stay in place without digging into your shoulders. If any of these checks fail, you likely need a different size or style.
If you know her current bra size, start there. Check the label of a bra she already wears and fits well. If you only know her T-shirt or dress size, here is a rough guide: S is usually 30B-32B, M is 32C-34B, L is 34C-36B, XL is 36C-38B. However, these are approximate. For gifting, babydolls and slips in S/M/L/XL are more forgiving than bras because they don't require an exact band-cup fit. When in doubt, our WhatsApp stylists can help you pick the right size with just a few questions — completely confidential.
Every body deserves beautiful lingerie. For plus-size figures, look for: (1) Full-coverage bras with wide straps and strong underwire for support. (2) High-waisted panties that smooth and shape. (3) Babydolls and chemises in A-line silhouettes that flare from the bust — incredibly flattering and comfortable. (4) Body stockings and teddies with mesh panels that create beautiful curves. (5) Corsets and bustiers that define the waist. Sinderella carries sizes up to 3XL and 44D in many styles. Our plus-size collection is designed specifically for fuller figures with reinforced construction and premium stretch fabrics.
Your bra size can change due to weight fluctuations, hormonal changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding, ageing, and even starting or stopping birth control. We recommend re-measuring every 6 to 12 months, or whenever your current bras start feeling uncomfortable. Signs you need a re-measurement: straps constantly slipping, band riding up, cups wrinkling or overflowing, or red marks on your skin after removing your bra. Our calculator above is always free to use — bookmark this page and check periodically.

The Complete Guide to Finding Your Lingerie Size in India

Finding the right lingerie size is one of the most important steps in building a wardrobe that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Studies consistently show that a significant majority of women wear the wrong bra size, leading to discomfort, poor posture, and clothing that doesn't fit as well as it could. In India, where lingerie sizing can vary dramatically between brands and where many women have never been professionally fitted, the problem is even more widespread.

This guide and calculator were built by the Sinderella team to solve that problem once and for all. Whether you're shopping for yourself or choosing the perfect gift for your partner, understanding how lingerie sizing works will save you from returns, discomfort, and disappointment.

Understanding Indian Bra Sizes

Indian bra sizing follows the UK system, which uses a combination of a number (the band size) and a letter (the cup size). The band size represents the circumference of your ribcage just below your breasts, measured in inches. Common band sizes in India range from 28 to 44. The cup size represents the difference between your bust measurement and your underbust measurement.

Here is how cup sizes are determined: if the difference between your bust and underbust is less than 1 inch, your cup size is AA. A 1-inch difference is an A cup, 2 inches is B, 3 inches is C, 4 inches is D, 5 inches is DD, and so on. Each inch of difference adds one cup size.

This means a 34C and a 36C do not have the same cup volume. The number matters as much as the letter. A 34C has a smaller cup than a 36C because the cup size is relative to the band size. This is why sister sizes exist and why a calculator like ours is so valuable.

Why Sister Sizes Matter

Sister sizes are an ingenious concept in bra fitting. They represent sizes that share the same cup volume but differ in band tightness. If you are a 34C, your sister sizes are 32D (tighter band, same cup volume) and 36B (looser band, same cup volume). This knowledge is incredibly practical when your exact size is sold out, when trying a new brand, or when a bra feels almost right but not quite perfect.

Our calculator automatically shows you your sister sizes so you always have alternatives. Many women find that they are actually more comfortable in a sister size than their calculated size, depending on the bra style, fabric stretch, and personal preference for band tightness.

How to Measure Bra Size at Home — Step by Step

You need just one tool: a soft, flexible measuring tape (the kind used for sewing). If you don't have one, you can use a piece of string and then measure the string against a ruler. Stand upright in front of a mirror for best results.

Step 1 — Measure the underbust: Wrap the measuring tape around your ribcage, directly below your breasts. The tape should be snug but not tight — you should be able to breathe comfortably. Keep the tape level all the way around. Note the measurement in inches or centimetres. If the number falls between two whole numbers, round to the nearest even number for your band size.

Step 2 — Measure the bust: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, typically at nipple level. The tape should be parallel to the floor and resting gently against your body — do not compress or pull tight. Note this measurement.

Step 3 — Calculate the difference: Subtract your underbust measurement from your bust measurement. This difference determines your cup size. Enter both numbers into our calculator above and it will instantly give you your Indian bra size, sister sizes, and international conversions.

For the most accurate results, measure while wearing a non-padded bra or no bra at all. Padded bras add false volume and will give you a cup size that is too large. Measure at the same time of day if possible, as breast size can fluctuate slightly throughout the day and menstrual cycle.

Indian vs US vs UK vs EU Sizes — What's the Difference?

The lingerie world unfortunately does not have one universal sizing standard. Here is a quick breakdown of the four major systems you will encounter when shopping online:

Indian/UK: Band sizes in inches (28, 30, 32...), cup sizes as letters (A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, FF, G...). India follows UK sizing almost exactly, which is great news for shopping from UK-based brands.

US: Same band sizes as India/UK. Cup sizes match up to DD but then diverge: the US uses DDD (or F) where the UK uses E, and the US G is the UK F. Always check which system a brand uses before ordering.

EU (European/French): Band sizes are in centimetres (65, 70, 75, 80...) and cup letters start from A but the progression differs. A 34C in India is roughly a 75C in EU sizing. European brands like Triumph, Hunkemoller, and La Senza use this system.

Our interactive conversion chart in the Size Chart tab maps all four systems side by side, so you can confidently order from any brand regardless of which sizing standard they use.

Choosing the Right Lingerie Style for Your Body Type

Beyond getting the right size, choosing styles that complement your body shape makes all the difference. Our Fit Recommender quiz takes your body type, comfort preferences, and occasion into account to suggest styles that will look and feel amazing on you. Here is a brief overview:

Hourglass figures (balanced bust and hips with a defined waist) look stunning in practically everything, but particularly shine in pieces that accentuate the waist: corsets, bustiers, high-waisted sets, and wrap-style babydolls.

Pear shapes (wider hips, narrower shoulders) are beautifully balanced by lingerie that draws attention upward: push-up bras, lacy bralettes, halter-neck babydolls, and off-shoulder chemises.

Apple shapes (fuller midsection) look gorgeous in empire-waist babydolls that flow from just below the bust, A-line chemises, and high-waisted pieces that smooth the midsection while highlighting the bust.

Rectangle shapes (balanced proportions, less defined waist) can create curves with structured corsets, padded push-up bras, high-waisted panties, and babydolls with cinched waists.

Inverted triangle shapes (broader shoulders) are balanced by lingerie with detailed bottoms: boy shorts, lace-trimmed panties, and babydolls with flared skirts. Soft-cup bralettes and V-neck pieces also work beautifully.

Lingerie Care Tips for Longer Life

Quality lingerie is an investment, and proper care extends its life significantly. Always hand-wash bras in lukewarm water with mild detergent. Never put bras in a dryer — the heat degrades elastic and underwire. Reshape cups while damp and lay flat or hang by the centre gore to dry. Rotate between at least three bras so each has time to recover its elasticity between wears. Store bras upright with cups nested into each other, never folded in half. Following these tips, a quality bra should last 6 to 9 months of regular wear.
