Two women can both be pear-shaped and need different necklines because one is a 32A and the other a 36D. Find your shape in the main guide, then use the cup-size rules here. If you only know one of the two, cup size is the one that changes which bra style will actually sit right.
Smaller bust (A–B cup): add shape, show skin
- Plunge and open-cup styles. Nothing to hold up means you can go as low as you like. Satin open-cup sets look deliberate on a smaller bust.

Medium bust (B–C cup): almost everything works

Find your cup in two minutes
Tape snug under the bust for the band, loose around the fullest point for the bust; the difference in inches is the cup (1 = A, 2 = B, 3 = C, 4 = D, 5 = E). Measure without a padded bra. The size calculator does it in inches or centimetres and adds the sister sizes. If the two sides differ, and for most women they do by up to a cup, fit the larger side; on a sheer set nobody notices a little extra room, but everybody notices spill.
Asymmetry, scars and the things nobody puts in a size chart
One side larger: buy for the larger side and, on an underwired set, shorten that strap a notch. A scar or a mark you would rather keep to yourself: a lace bodysuit or a bodystocking with a pattern breaks up the surface and keeps the eye moving; a plain sheer piece does the opposite.
