Lace Trim

Strips or bands of lace applied to the edges of lingerie garments as decorative finishing, adding a feminine, romantic touch.

What Is Lace Trim?

Lace trim refers to narrow strips or bands of lace — typically 1 to 5 centimetres wide — that are sewn along the edges of a lingerie garment. You will find lace trim at necklines, hem lines, leg openings, waistbands, and along strap edges. The trim is a finishing detail applied to a garment made from a different primary fabric, distinguishing it from pieces where lace is the main construction material.

Lace trim transforms the appearance of simple lingerie. A plain satin chemise with lace trim at the bust and hem immediately looks more refined than the same silhouette with bound or elastic-finished edges. Beyond aesthetics, lace trim at leg openings can replace elastic entirely — using stretch lace that grips gently without digging in, eliminating the red marks that tight elastic bands leave on skin.

Quality lace trim is securely stitched with even tension, lying flat without buckling or gathering unevenly. The free edge of the trim should be finished — scalloped, picot-edged, or heat-sealed — not raw-cut, which frays after a few washes. Pull gently on the trim: it should be attached firmly enough that it does not separate from the base fabric. Colour-matched thread in the stitching indicates attention to detail.

Sinderella applies lace trim where it makes the biggest visual difference — along necklines and hems of satin and mesh pieces — using stretch lace that moves with the body for comfort as well as beauty.

How to Wear & Style

Lace-trimmed camisoles and chemises peek out attractively under unbuttoned shirts, blazers, and cardigans — the trim acts as a visible accent. When washing, fasten all hooks and closures and place the garment in a mesh bag to prevent the trim from catching on other items. If any trim begins to lift at the edges, a few hand stitches early on prevents a full detachment later.

Does lace trim on lingerie edges irritate the skin?

Well-applied lace trim should not irritate. Quality trim uses soft nylon or cotton lace with finished edges and is attached with flat seams so no raw edges contact the skin. If trim feels scratchy, it typically means cheap polyester lace or a raw-edged attachment method. Look for lace trim with a soft, flexible hand feel before purchasing.

What is the difference between lace trim and lace edging?

They are often used interchangeably, but technically lace trim is a narrow strip sewn onto an existing edge, while lace edging refers to a lace border that IS the finished edge of the fabric itself — like a scalloped lace hem that needs no additional finishing. Both add a decorative border; the construction method differs.
