Power Mesh

A strong, stretchy mesh fabric with firm control properties, commonly used in shapewear and supportive lingerie panels.

What Is Power Mesh?

Power mesh is a high-performance knit fabric constructed from nylon and a significantly higher percentage of spandex than standard mesh, typically between 15% and 20%. This elevated elastane content transforms what would otherwise be a decorative sheer panel into a compression fabric capable of smoothing, lifting, and shaping the body. You will find it in the side panels of corsets, the back sections of bras, the linings of bodysuits, and across entire shapewear garments.

The defining characteristic of power mesh is its four-way stretch with firm recovery. When you pull it in any direction, it resists slightly and then snaps back completely. This controlled tension is what creates the smoothing effect under clothing. Unlike rigid compression garments that can dig in and create visible lines, power mesh distributes pressure evenly across its surface area, producing a gradual smoothing rather than abrupt compression marks.

Because power mesh retains the open-knit structure of regular mesh, it remains breathable despite its compression properties. Air circulates through the tiny holes in the fabric, making it far more comfortable for all-day wear than solid compression fabrics like neoprene or heavy elastics. This breathability is especially valuable in India's warm climate, where solid shapewear can feel stifling within hours.

Power mesh comes in different weights measured by denier and compression level. Light power mesh (around 40 denier) provides gentle smoothing for bra wings and panty sides. Medium power mesh (60-80 denier) is the standard for shapewear panels and corset linings. Heavy power mesh (100+ denier) delivers maximum control for waist-cinching garments. Always hand wash power mesh in cold water and never put it in a dryer, as heat degrades spandex and permanently reduces the fabric's snap-back ability.

How to Wear & Style

Power mesh lingerie is your best friend under fitted dresses, sarees with tight blouses, and lehenga cholis. Choose a bodysuit with power mesh panels for wedding guest outfits where you want a smooth silhouette under heavy fabrics. For everyday wear, a bra with power mesh wings sits flush against the ribcage, preventing the side-spillover that standard mesh bands allow. Size up if you find the compression too firm rather than the garment too tight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is power mesh?

A strong, stretchy mesh fabric with firm control properties, commonly used in shapewear and supportive lingerie panels.

What is the difference between power mesh and regular mesh?

Regular mesh is a lightweight, open-weave fabric meant for sheer decorative panels. Power mesh has a much higher spandex content (typically 15-20%) and a tighter knit, giving it firm compression and control. It pulls in and smooths rather than just adding a see-through visual element.

Does power mesh feel uncomfortable on sensitive skin?

Quality power mesh made from nylon-spandex blends is surprisingly smooth against skin. Look for pieces where the power mesh is lined at pressure points or used only in side and back panels. Avoid power mesh with a rough grid texture, which can feel scratchy after prolonged wear.
