Georgette is a crepe fabric named after the early 20th-century French dressmaker Georgette de la Plante. It is woven using highly twisted S-twist and Z-twist yarns in both the warp and weft directions. These opposing twists create tension in the finished fabric, producing georgette's distinctive pebbled, slightly crinkled surface and its springy, bouncy drape. Originally made exclusively from silk, modern georgette is also produced in polyester, rayon, and blended versions.
