Back Closure
Back Closure
The fastening system located at the back of a bra, typically consisting of rows of hook-and-eye closures.
What Is a Back Closure?
A back closure is the fastening mechanism positioned at the centre back of a bra band, made up of metal hooks on one side and fabric-covered loops (eyes) on the other. When clasped together, they secure the band around the ribcage and keep the bra in place. Most back closures have two to four rows of hooks and two or three columns, giving you multiple width settings to fine-tune the fit.
The back closure is where roughly 80% of a bra's support originates. A well-fitted band with a properly engineered closure sits level around the torso -- parallel to the ground, not riding up in the back. If the closure rides up, the band is too loose and the straps end up carrying weight they should not, leading to shoulder strain and reduced lift. This is why hook count and column count matter more than most shoppers realize.
When evaluating quality, check that the hooks are smoothly finished with no rough edges that could snag fabric or scratch skin. The eye tape (the reinforced fabric strip holding the loops) should be firmly stitched and wide enough to prevent the hooks from pulling through. Premium bras often use coated metal hooks that resist rust and feel smoother against the skin.
Sinderella bra sets use multi-column closures with coated hooks, so the band stays secure without irritation -- even during long wear.
How to Wear & Style
Fasten a new bra on the loosest hook column and move inward as the band stretches over time. For backless tops or dresses, consider a front-closure or adhesive bra instead. If you find back closures difficult to manage, try fastening the bra in front at your waist, spinning it around, then pulling the cups up and slipping into the straps -- a trick that many find easier than reaching behind.

How many hooks should a bra back closure have?
Most A-to-C cup bras have two hooks, while D-cup and above typically use three or four hooks for wider load distribution. More hooks spread the tension across a larger area, which reduces digging and improves band stability for fuller busts.
Which hook column should I fasten my new bra on?
Always start on the loosest (outermost) column. A new bra band will stretch over time with wear and washing, so the tighter columns give you room to maintain a snug fit as the elastic relaxes. If a bra only fits on the tightest hook from day one, the band size is too large.
